CONTROLROOMLIVEUNIT
Enter a performance without performer/s where the backline of the theatre; the control room, becomes the mainline in this mirage of live video, sound and light within an empty space.
Controlroomliveunit is a collaborative work by video artist Choy Ka Fai and sound artist George Chua, with the lighting designed by Lim Woan Wen. In this performance the artists hope to experiment and explore the possibilities of an inter-relationship between these elements with various techniques such as computer programming (for example MIDI) as well as sensory devices. Research for this project began in December 2004 and will culminate in the first presentation.
Performance Date: 20th and 21st May 2005 Performance Time: 8 pm Venue: The Esplanade Theatre Studio Ticket Price: $15 (no concession)
(Tickets available at all SISTIC's Outlet)

UTTERLY ART presents
SEIZURE Lines Beyond the Metaphysics by MAZNAH AHMAD Opening reception Thursday 19th May 2005 7pm Utterly Art Exhibition Space 208 South Bridge Road 2nd Level, Singapore 058757 Tel: 6226 2605 E-mail: utterlyart@pacific.net.sg Mon-Sat 11.30 am - 8 pm Sun 12 noon - 5.30 pm The gallery will be closed on Monday 23rd May 2005. The exhibition runs till Sunday 29th May 2005.
When Maznah Ahmad engages in creating her abstract works, she actually enters each piece of her large paper or canvas paintings. As with Tibetan mandalas, Indian kolam or rangoli, and aboriginal sand drawings, Maznah creates her paintings in a horizontal fashion and becomes one with the work while she drips, strikes, gestures or pours on the surface. At the heart of her paintings are the lines. Pure, strong, direct lines. They reveal her thinking, her mood – when they meander, she is lost; when energetic, she is close to ecstasy. The surface becomes the artist’s world, and Maznah enters a transcendent state to lose herself into an other-worldly experience where the truth of her emotions cannot help but reveal themselves in paint.
Maznah holds both MA in Fine Art (Painting) RMIT (Aust) and BA (2nd Class Upper Hons) (Uni.Hull, UK). She was trained by award-winning English painter Steve Whitehead, and has participated actively in UK public exhibitions, selling her works there.

STOPOVER makes available a platform for the meeting of performance art practices by Japanese and Singaporean artists. This meeting seeks to achieve a positive reception and discourse in Singapore.
For the first time, 10 Japanese performance artists from NIPAF (Nippon International Performance Art Festival) will present their works in Singapore. Mr. Seiji Shimoda, Director of NIPAF, has recently organized the 12th Nippon International Performance Art Festival (http://www.avis.ne.jp/~nipaf/), touring four major cities in Japan. He has created many performance art networks in Asia and initiated many performance art festival in Asia, example, PIPAF (Philippines International Performance Art Festival, JIPAF (Jakarta International Performance Art Festival) and TIPAF (Taiwan International Performance Festival) just to name a few.
From Singapore, we have invited 10 established and new faces to make live presentation in STOPOVER. I believe that an event like this will help to increase international cultural exchange and understanding, as well as being an accentuation of our artistic practice, research and development.
