Sculpture Square and Artists Village present THE PUBLIC ART LIBRARY @SCULPTURE SQUARE
The Public Art Library, originally hosted at SAM, has found a NEW HOME at Sculpture Square. The move will be commemorated with a tandem launch together with the Artists Village Book Project on the 30th of April at Sculpture Square.
The Public Art Library at Sculpture Square is a unique project developed to promote art appreciation amongst the general public and art collectors. The concept of the art library functions like any public library, with works available to be borrowed and returned. Members of the library are also given the opportunity to meet up with the creators of their favourite pieces and to attend workshops run by participating artists. From 30th April onwards, the Public Art Library’s substantial art collection and the new artists’ books will be housed in Sculpture Square’s charming, recently conserved premises.
Now, in an effort to expand the library’s collection and give members a greater variety of choice, The Artists Village conceived the “Book Project”, where each artist was given a book consisting of thirty A4 pages and asked to write, draw, paint or do anything within it. The book was then returned to the Public Art Library after a period of six months and entered into the collection circulation for a year, thus giving the public - especially bookworms, bookmakers and book-lovers, the unique opportunity to see and appreciate the artist's book.
This April 30th at 6.30 p.m., Sculpture Square and The Artists’ Village will be organising a joint launch of the Public Art Library and the “Book Project”. The books will be on view during the opening, with a special performance by Sunseeker at 7 p.m.
