The conceptualisation of the Visions & Illusions collaborative project began in June 2003 and has since been evolving into a multi-faceted and challenging arts project encompassing visual arts, multi-media, literary arts, design, fashion and club scene entertainment elements. This unprecedented cross-disciplinary project is ambitious, innovative and extraordinary in the historical development of the arts scene in Singapore. It will also break new ground in terms of independent collaborative projects that have taken place in the international arts scene.
The project is essentially structured in a 3+1 framework:
The Art Exhibition: Reconstruction of a City The Event: ZoukArt Party The Documentation: A Design Publication Activity Forum: The Bonzai Club
Visions & Illusions involves more than 50 Singaporean curators, artists, writers and creative practitioners based all over the world. Designed to anchor itself to Singapore as its site-specific base, the project combines both practical and documentation aspects, looking at curatorial, art-making and documentation as (1) structural processes and practices open for critique as well as (2) methods of investigation in itself.
