STPI Public Lecture Series 4 October 2003 : 2.30pm “Woodcuts in Singapore” by Lim Cheng Tju
This talk will trace the arrival of the Creative Woodblock Movement to Singapore in the 1930s and the continued activism of the woodblock artists in the 1950s and 1960s, and its decline in the 1970s.
Lim Cheng Tju is a junior college history teacher who writes about the arts, popular culture and politics. His articles on cartooning and woodblock prints in Singapore have appeared in the Southeast Asia Journal of Social Science, Teaching and Learning, Journal of Popular Culture and the International Journal of Comic Art.
