"Two lines intersecting each other -‘X’, marked the stimulus for the 3rd installation of Blank Slate Exhibition to be held at PASSAGE: an art space. A total of eighteen Blank Slate Artists here peer, dissect, attack, battle, and lovingly caress the symbol or pictorial representation of ‘X’. In their exploration of this poignant two-strokes mark, some questions arise. Is it a symbol? Is it part of the alphabet? Or is it the quintessential concoction of Little Red Riding Hood’s woodcutter? Issues of censorship are sneeringly magnified, juxtaposing with the self-censorship of the human psyche. This exhibition subjected the artist to examine one’s relationship with the mundane, whilst encouraging creativity, whipped along by artistic expression. ‘X’ also marked the cavorting of artists’ imagination with a symbol from the drags of an alphabet."

PASSAGE: an art space would like to invite YOU to the opening of this exhibition on 2nd October 2003, at 2.30pm. Light refreshment will be served. Our art space is located within the NIE campus, at The Nanyang Playhouse, Central Corridor. You can find a map at the following url: http://www.nie.edu.sg/html/stud_campus.htm

PASSAGE: an art space is an experimental art space, which is run by a group of NIE graduates and undergraduates. This is the third time that we organise a Blank Slate Exhibition. Artists who have participated in this exhibition are known as Blank Slate Artists. Artworks are created by them in response to a stimulus each time.
