The inaugural painting exhibition of SPACE 21

Project Mooch

by husband-and-wife team

Paul Koh and Michelle Chang

Thursday 27th November 2003 7 pm

SPACE 21, 21 Tanjong Pagar Road 3rd Level, Singapore 088444.

Tuesday-Sunday 4-8pm.

12noon-4pm by appointment only, call Utterly Art at 62262605 or 94872006. Closed Mondays.

The exhibition runs through to Sunday 14th December 2003.

‘Project Mooch’ will feature the bright, breezy paintings of PaulMych, or to be specific, creative director and designer Paul Koh, and actress, TV host and DJ Michelle Chang. Michelle and Paul admire the same artists and are inspired by the same movies, magazines, and books. They paint together in the same room and even give each other advice during the process. But, their painting styles are poles apart. Paul paints abstract representations or caricatures of Michelle while Michelle paints, not her hubby, but cats, fishes and boats set in surreal landscapes. Her paintings are childlike, bright and colourful, while his canvasses are filled with erotic, meditative and sensuous female forms.

SPACE 21 is a new ~1950 sq ft art space and multi-function hall situated in a growing arts, entertainment and lifestyle block managed by Guan Seng Kee Pte Ltd, currently housing Toy Factory Theatre Ensemble in its Attic and MOX Bar & Cafe on the fourth level.

Included in this exhibition is the ‘Proposal’ collection, some 8 portraits of Michelle which Paul painted and used to propose to her.

[In case you’re wondering, the name “Project Mooch” is inspired by the act of mooching, an exercise their cat, Halo seems to enjoy twenty-four seven.]
