The UOB Painting of the Year Award has gone to 16-year-old Alvin Ong from National Junior College, the youngest winner ever since the competition started in 1982.

He received $20,000 and a trophy for this winning work entitled "The Window" which explores the issue of dictatorship, inspired by George Orwell's book 1984.

The 2005 competition drew an overwhelming response of 940 entries. Over 40 of the paintings will be on display at the Esplanade from this Sunday, 17th July to 5th August.
