Ulli Frings
Heartland
Singapore-based artist Ulli Frings presents her
multi-cultural work based on her perception of Singapore and memories of her
homeland, Germany. While Frings’ deals with a variety of media such as oil
colour, spray paint and varnish, she’s best regarded for her use of both Asian
and Western fabrics in her work. Frings enjoys combining fabric, which she uses
as a substitute for canvas, with her two and three-dimensional work. She says:
“My art work touches on questions of searching, belonging, identity, hope and
longing…I am also interested in how memories, experiences, hopes and dreams
influence our future search for self.” Heartland runs between September 20 and
29 at the Art Gallery, Tanjong Pagar Community Club (Tel: 6221 9898).
