In 1997, a vacant school building in Telok Kurau was converted to arts studios for Singapore painters. Known as Telok Kurau Studios, it is located at 91 Lorong J, Telok Kurau. It used to be part of the LaSalle - SIA College of the Arts and even earlier, was Telok Kurau West Primary School. Built in 1960, it has four levels and a total of 28 rooms, each of about 60 square metres, for use.

Under the Arts Housing Scheme, successful applicants may rent a room individually or with a few others for the purpose of artistic creation. The rental ranges from $74 to $98 (excluding miscellaneous fees). Other charges are subsidised by the NAC. The lease period of between 1 to 2 years enables more painters to have the opportunity to benefit from the scheme. The first multi-level arts studios in Singapore, Telok Kurau is currently home to 33 individuals painters and 2 arts societies.

Admission is free, but by appointment only.
