Floral paintings are just one genre in Siew Kiat's oeuvre, but they are the most
overt testimony of her love for nature. These free and uninhibited renditions of
the hibiscus plant bear, more often than not, accidental droplets from a laden
brush, revealing the artist's confidence and spontaneity in the handling of the
watercolour medium as well as her sensitivity in conveying the delicacy and
poetry inherent in her subject.
