MIW LAUNCHES FIRST NATIONWIDE DIGITAL DEFENCE ART COMPETITION IN SINGAPORE - 'OUR PEOPLE, AT THE HEART OF DEFENCE'

Singapore, 31 March 2004 - Seeking to bring the nation's defence closer to the
hearts of Singaporeans, the National Servicemen's (NSmen) lifestyle portal MIW (www.miw.com.sg)
launches the first-ever nationwide Digital Defence Art Competition in Singapore.
Supported by MINDEF, the competition aims to unleash Singaporean's creative
juices in capturing the essence of defending our nation through digital art.
Themed "Our People, At the Heart of Defence", the competition requires each
participant to craft his or her individual perception, value and aspiration
about the nation's defence and express them through the use of digital
photography, designing software or any other relevant digital medium. The
Contest is open to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents residing in
Singapore.
Participants stand a chance to win cash and products worth more than $20,000 in
total. There are three top prizes and 15 consolation prizes. Winners will also
receive a Certificate of Award whereas all other participants will receive a
Certificate of Participation.
To participate, one simply needs to register as a MIW member on MIW and submit
an online entry form at the 'Digital Defence Art Competition 2004' website from
15 March 2004, 09:00 am and ends on 30 May 2004 11:59 pm. All accepted entries
would be featured on MIW for public viewing. The results will be announced in
July 2004.
Determining the winners for this competition is a panel of distinguished judges
that include well-known faces in the arts industry, including Jean Wee, curator
of the Singapore Art Museum; June Yap, curator for cyberarts at the Singapore
Art Museum; Dr Eugene Tan, Director of the Earl Lu Gallery at the LASALLE-SIA
College of the Arts; Dr Cai Yiyu, Programme Director of NTU and SRP of Virtual
Reality and Soft Computing and Mr Tien, a cyber artist.
